Hello from your friend in Bucharest : )
Cocktail parties are back 🥳
I hadn’t thrown a cocktail party in Bucharest since summer of 2023. Why? Well, life gets in the way. I launched a podcast ad agency, took a job with Honeywell, focused on being a great dad, helped my daughter learn how to walk again, and went through some major changes in my personal life. That said, maintaining a social life wasn’t really a priority. But that changed yesterday because helping people make connections and creating environments where sparks can happen is probably the closest thing to a super power that I have.
Last night I hosted a fun gathering, aka cocktail party, with a few friends in my apartment. Interesting people like:
Cristina Martinescu who loves curating cozy brunch experiences that bring together wholesome, delicious food, and meaningful conversations. (And she cooks everything from scratch! 🧑🍳
Daniel Deaconu who might be perceived as unusual by other people in the fact that he runs every day. Currently he has run for more than 700 consecutive days and even once did his daily run in the Dubai airport. 🏃➡️
Cristina Ene who has traveled around the world, can drive any boat and has cruised around Australia. When she is not traveling she shows Bucharest's hidden gems to visitors who book her services on sites like AirBnb. ⛴️
Mihnea Haisan who rides bikes up mountains for fun, enjoys automating things to make room for better ideas, and takes way too many photos of clouds. 🚴
And several other interesting people including Cristina Popescu, Lema Helou, Daniela Roman, Mihnea Haisan, Angelos Fragkos, and Costin Enache.
For me, these cocktail parties are so much more than drinks and small talk. Strangers become friends, connections are made, and you get to be a part of fascinating conversations from how to retire on a cruise ship to the emotional depths of psychodrama therapy.
Thanks to everyone who came and made this cocktail party special 🥳

So True 😂
What I’m up to
🚀 Love this Diary of a CEO interview with Vanessa Van Edwards, founder of ‘Science of People’, which gives people science-backed skills to improve communication and leadership.
🤖 This podcast on Hannibal Barca, Rome’s greatest enemy is so good I’ve listened to it twice.
✍️ I am testing a GPT-powered AI language teacher called Talkpal.ai to help me with my Romanian. So far I like it and feel it’s helped me much more than Duolingo ever did.
👉 An interesting book I am reading is the Midnight library about a woman who on the last day on earth finds she’s been given the chance to undo her regrets and try out each of the other lives she might have lived.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
Cheers,
Eric M.
