Tips on Elevating your Personal Brand on LinkedIn
Last week I was invited to speak at two events. One from the folks at StartupGrind and another with the team at DreamUps in Chisinau, Moldova.
One of the workshops I gave was on the importance of building your personal brand. I hate that term ‘personal brand’, but I can’t deny its importance. I think anyone who shares what they do on social has an extraordinary advantage over others who do not.
A few inspiring marketers and founders in attendance like Elena Opera (above) shared their thoughts and tips on what they learned from this workshop. A few other tips that have helped me build my PB on LinkedIn:
Pick 3 types of people to engage with on a consistent basis (5 in each category): 1/ people who could be your clients, 2/ industry peers, and 3/ people who can support you. Comment and engage with them on a regular basis. After a few weeks, invite them to a virtual coffee on zoom/meetup so you can get to know them better and turn an online friend into a real relationship.
Before you post, engage with others at least 15 minutes before and after. This helps fuel the algorithm. Ideally post around the same time every day - could be in the morning or around noon when people are most active.
Not sure what to talk about? Talk about a recent milestone, a customer success story, a throwback photo, comment on a trending article, share a picture with your team, a favorite tool you like using, an event you attended or book you just read…..don’t think you just need to share stuff about work
Put some effort into your LinkedIn banner by articulating what is it you do. This is the first thing people see when they look at your profile. An example is Klinta Kocane’s banner. Hek, her entire LI profile is amazing.
Special thanks to Andreea Rusu, Aliona Rotaru, Kardo Sharifi, Andreea Rusu, Julia Bishir for a wonderful welcome and fantastic visit to Moldova! 😃

See that beautiful group of people up there?
That’s the Dreamups team from Moldova treating me to a wonderful dinner last week. Some smart guy told them I was good at giving workshops on startup growth hacks and building one’s personal brand and I guess they believed him 😆
I was in Chisinau roughly 48 hours so I didn’t have that much time to soak in the country. Two workshops, a dinner, a trip to the Cricova winery and a meeting with a potential client filled most of my time. But from my short visit, I realized something I hadn’t expected (at least in my perception)...
Moldova really is a different country. I mean, it wasn’t that long ago that this region was part of Romania. So I didn’t expect any kind of culture shock or big differences. But from my visit, and after hearing so many people say they wanted to “go international and expand into the Romanian market”, I now see just how close yet different Romanians are compared to Moldovians. Hek, Moldovians don’t even eat mamaliga!
I didn’t get a chance to see the city like I would have liked to. And next time I go, I’m bringing a larger suitcase so I can bring back more bottles of wine. 🍷
Do you have a favorite wine from Moldova or Romania? If so, let me know. I’d like to try it!
